YYZ to DEL

Buying tickets to India for a family of four from Toronto to Delhi took me a few weeks to do.  Normally I would go online and book tickets via Expedia.ca or directly through an airline.  However, I wanted to take advantage of the 'stopovers' enroute and maximize our vacation so I booked through a travel agent at Flight Centre.

Airlines that fly to Delhi from Toronto:
Air Canada
Air India
Jet Airways
KLM
Etihad
Lufthansa

The airline you choose will depend on where you want a stopover.  For example; Air Canada/Air India/British Airways stopover in London, UK.  Jet Airways/KLM in Amsterdam, Lufthansa in Munich, Etihad in Abu Dhabi.  There are many options.  Working directly with a travel agent is the best way to get exactly what you want.

We are going
Air Canada Toronto to London
Jet Airways London to Delhi
Jet Airways Mumbai to Amsterdam
Jet Airways Amsterdam to Toronto

Notice that I chose a different departure city from India on the way back.  Instead of a return flight from Delhi we will make our way to Mumbai and then fly out of that city.  You could try to book that online yourself but the price changes drastically.  I totally recommend using a travel agent.

Price.....
There is no way around the price of airline tickets these days.  Tickets to India range from $1500-$2000 per person.  The biggest part of our budget was the airline tickets.  Using an agent to get all the stopovers included in the price means we will get to see more countries with the same tickets.

Once the tickets were booked....I knew we were ready to plan our itinerary!  Booking hotels, planes, trains and automobiles was my favourite part.  Stay tuned for my next post.

Indian Transportation

Planes, trains, automobiles, rickshaws, e-rickshaws, elephants, camels, boats, trucks...we experienced it all.  Driving through India is like being in a dance with many performers moving through the tiniest of spaces and somehow making it to the end.  Every arrival is like arriving at the end of a rollercoaster ride.  We survived, barely.

Agra 2017

Marble inlay craftsmen from Agra have been producing marble artwork for centuries since the Taj Mahal was built. These skills are passed down from father to sons only for generations. This too will be obsolete within the next 20 years. Hand embroidery is another art form which will be lost to automation. The man in the shop said there were only 70 people left doing this form of embroidery.

Badges! Badges! I don't need no stinking Badges!

What has become of me?  I've become that mom who lives vicariously through her 7 year old daughter.  Don't get me wrong.  I haven't signed her up for Toddlers and Tiaras or Honey Boo Boo's Texas Choice Pageants.  I signed her up for Brownies! Why? Girl Guides? Brownies? what have I done? Well, I have a problem.  I love badges.  I want to get badges...lots of them.  In fact I may buy some on Ebay...no kidding. Why badges? Well, I used to be a brownie from 1977-1979 (7-9yrs old).  I wore my brownie dress, scarf, beret with pride.  I enjoyed my Wednesday nights at St. Cuthbert's Church.  It was my first time in a church (I'm a Hindu and didn't know until I stepped into a church that I wasn't a Christian...that's a whole other post!) Brownies was a time I could do arts and crafts, sing songs, cook and bake and play with friends not from my school.  I did this for years.  Every week I would happily skip to the churc...
